Harry Miller Club Notes
by Dana Mecum
1/7/2010
Reflecting on Miller Meet 2009 and beyond. We had one of the largest, if not the largest spectator crowds in the history of the Miller Meet. We also had a very nice turnout of entrants and of course the fantastic weather which allowed two fun-filled days of running our cars.
We did have some last-minute adversity to overcome, as the track promoter group for the Mile essentially "went out of business" on the last day of June. This gave us only 10 days to reorganize almost a year's worth of labor in order for the event to take place. I'm very proud to be associated with our club's inner-staff who works very hard to put the event together every year, no matter the obstacle.
The State Fair board did allow us to go ahead with our meet . . . However it added great expense to the Miller Club. At this time the State Fair board is very supportive of the Miller Meet and we are very confident the 2010 event will be back at the Mile. However, the dark area to this equation is the cost; and at this time a new track operator has not been finalized. From a financial standpoint the Miller Club needs a primary sponsor to offset this potential increase in cost. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please give us a call.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Dana Mecum
